The Summer Wardrobe That Saves Me Time and Money

I know you’ve probably heard of a capsule wardrobe before, and if you’re anything like me, you instantly shrug it off as “that could never be me, I actually like colors other than white, black, and tan”.

Here me out though. What if you ignore trying to collect 10 items to wear throughout four seasons (bleh)? It doesn’t make sense for a Floridian like me to take up two of those 10 items with a sweater and a long-sleeve anyways. That leaves me with eight items for the three other seasons.

So I decided to make my own rules and create a spring/summer, summer/fall, and fall/winter rolling wardrobe. Today we’re going to address my spring/summer collection:

I currently have two drawers full of tops, bottoms, and dresses I have to wear for these two seasons.

I have used this method for a few months and it saves me so much time and thought about what to wear. Here’s a list of what’s in my rotation:

  • Red gingham blouse and shorts set
  • Blue gingham blouse and shorts set
  • White cropped lace tripped blouse
  • White embroidered flowy top
  • Black gingham short sleeve blouse
  • Yellow gingham pants
  • Pistachio green linen pants
  • Blue, green, white, and pink dresses
  • Blue denim overalls, shorts, and jeans
  • Two cotton short-sleeve lounge sets with shorts (red and blue)

This may seem like a lot when it’s in a bulleted list, but trust, it only takes up two out of eight dresser drawers, as seen above.

I now use fewer pieces and get more wear out of clothes I like. A plus is this collection can last me into fall. It also shows that you can have a smaller rotation that still has color.

Of course, if I need to pull a cardigan out of my closet for church, I do. But this more streamlined approach to dressing is more practical, stress-free, time-friendly, and easier on the wallet.

You can check out my Instagram to see some of my recent outfits in action. I decided I’d share on this platform, though, since it’s been a help to me, especially in reducing my spending!
